I have GHOST STORIES! Because those are what you need for spooky season. (That and a marathon rewatch of Agatha All Along *grin*)
Cross the threshold. Pass through the veil. If you dare…
Voices whisper just beyond hearing. Cold air fogs breath. A
sharp sense of dread. A fleeting movement too fast to see. A strange scent of
roses or rot.
A warning.
Pass through the thin barrier between reality and the
otherworld. Through portals into eerie lands. Where haunting wails and
mysterious moans trigger primal fears. Spooky, atmospheric, and waiting…
For the unwary.
From the luminous and evocative worlds of acclaimed author Kat Simons comes an all-new collection of contemporary fantasy ghost stories, full of creeping dread and dark shadowed mysteries. Waiting beyond the veil.
As I mentioned last month, this year's Haunts and Howls collection is a little different. There are only five stories in it because most of them are novella and novelette length--it's a big book! There's only one story that qualifies as a short story.
And all but one of the stories involves series characters! I'm not sure why I felt the need to write mostly series characters with the ghost theme. Some are self evident, I suppose. Cary Redmond hates ghosts, so of course she has a story in here. And Friday's Curious Shop is...well, a perfect setting for a ghost story, right? Destiny Cats also lend themselves to the ghost theme.
The only non-regular Haunts and Howls series character is Percy James, from the Percy James Mysteries. But the whole NYC hotel setting for Percy's stories also lent itself to a ghost tale, so she got a story here too.
So almost the entire collection is fun spooky stories with familiar characters. BUT don't worry, they are all also standalone stories so readers won't need to have read anything else to enjoy these stories. Well, the Destiny Cats story might be helped along by having read other Destiny Cats stories in the Haunts and Howls collections or as standalones, but even that one stands alone as a story.
