Spooky Season Approaches!

So I know those of you in the Southern Hemisphere are rolling into spring instead of autumn, but up my way, we have autumn right on the doorstep and that means SPOOKY SEASON!!

I might already be celebrating with spooky movies and spooky reading and the occasional pumpkin thingy (but to be fair, I have pumpkin food/drink throughout the year. And I'm a terrible sucker for orange and black seasonal food.)

SPOOKY SEASON FUN

To celebrate Spooky Season this year, I'm going to be trying something over at KatSimonsBooks. A Spooky Season Advent Calendar! Not sure that's the right name for it, LOL, but I saw an ad with spooky season knickknacks in an advent calendar type thing and I thought... Hey! I could do something like that.

Because it's the first year, and this is an experiment, I'm going to being doing a thing every other day throughout October over at the store. Giving away short stories, advanced excerpts, discount codes, that kind of thing. Sixteen (16) surprises, starting on October 1st and culminating with a Halloween treat.

This is still in the planning stages, and it is an experiment (in other words, there might be some bugs I'll have to work out). But I hope it'll be fun. So for those of you who want to play along and have a bit of fun for Halloween, I hope you'll join me! (And let me know what else would make this kind of thing fun for you! If it's successful, I could always make this an annual thing.)

~~

FOR SEPTEMBER

I have a couple of standalone eBooks releasing that were also in HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES. And I have the preorder link for the next Haunts and Howls Collection. Which is HAUNTS AND HOWLS THROUGH GHOSTLY VEILS and it is so well suited for this time of year!! I'm very excited about this one. It's a little different for a Haunts and Howls collection for reasons I'll explain next month, but definitely fun. And spppppoooooookkkkkyyyyy. (ha!)

~~~
RELEASES
So! Out this month, I have a Destiny Cats novella, LIGHTNING THROUGH THE CATS EYES. It's out everywhere now as a standalone eBook.
Print readers, you'll want to pick up the HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES collection for this story and the next one I mention below.
LIGHTNING THROUGH THE CATS EYES
A Destiny Cats Novella
Travel, adventure, danger…and cats.
Erica Randal’s destiny requires a lot of balance. Time learning the roll of destined guardian of a temple protecting deadly knowledge. Time learning her way around a sword before inheriting her aunt’s magical sword. Time adapting to her clowder of guardian shapeshifting cats and their leader Galahad living in her home.
And time off from work to travel. To distant parts of the multiverse. With pink sands and mile high cliffs. And a purple sea topped by glowing, seaweed-scented waves so huge they make her heart hammer.
But the waves prove the least of Erica’s worries. What hides beneath that alien ocean threatens the very fabric of reality. And even the most terrifying ally might not be enough to prevent disaster. Erica, her aunt, and the Destiny Cats must stop their ancient enemy. Or risk the destruction of everything.
~~
For those of you who enjoy the Destiny Cats stories, a little heads up that there will be a new one in the October Haunts and Howls Collection, too!
~~
Next up for this month, another standalone eBook that was originally published in DRAGON TALES. This one comes out on September 22, is available for preorder now, and is one of those strange tales that I really enjoyed writing.
DRAGONS OF SOME KIND
Preorder Now!
She must face a dangerous legacy, or watch her brother die…
Tanith waits beside the river where she knows they’ll find her. Skipping rocks. Tasting the honey spiced crispness of the autumn air. Trying not to think. Her brother warned her not to come here. Not to seek them out. But no other choice remains. Hamish will die without their knowledge.
To save her brother, to reclaim their lives, Tanith must risk everything.
Find them. Face them. And try not to die.
Her only hope lies with the dragons. Of some kind.
In this mesmerizing, richly woven contemporary fantasy from Kat Simons, fall into a world that runs parallel to our own, a mythic world with deadly stakes. Where a young woman must face terrifying creatures to save her only family.
~~
And finally, the preorder for HAUNTS AND HOWLS THROUGH GHOSTLY VEILS is up now! I'll have more about this book next month, but if you'd like to make sure to pick it up, consider preordering it now.
This book will be out in eBook, Trade Paperback, and Large Print editions on October 13th (auspicious date for a spooky season story in my humble opinion LOL). And is a perfect book for this time of year, I am not exaggerating. I mean...ghosts! Ghosts!
~~~

THE CAFE

This is your monthly reminder to check out the free reading over at The Cafe at KatSimonsBooks! The current story, ZELDA AT THE CAFE, is a good one for rolling into the season, because... Well, I don't want to give it away. You can read it for free until October 1st!

~~~
Until next month, I hope you have a lot of fun spooky reading and movies in your life! And the appropriate-to-you level of pumpkin products.
November 25, 2025
Well that went fast!
November was a weird month and now it's almost over! I'm not entirely sure how that happened, but here we are almost upon Thanksgiving here in the US. Eek! But I do have some updates and news, so here we go.
Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who was able to support the APOCALYPSE WITCH Kickstarter, whether by directly backing or passing the word. I truly appreciate all the help! The eBook is currently up for preorder and will release everywhere on December 3rd. If you're a backer, you will have received your copy already. The print books are going to probably launch a bit later than the eBook this time around because I'm doing some fun interior stuff and want to make sure I get the proofs before I let the books go live. But I'll have links and updates on that next month.
APOCALYPSE WITCH
Demon Witch, Book Five
Releases December 3rd
The Apocalypse Witch… A disaster? A warning? Or a destiny…
With this new cursed power dangling a knife over her head and pinning a target to her back, witch Angie Jordan faces one last trial to find answers. Before the dark magic kills her. A journey that tests her control. Strains her bond with Sebastian. And reveals secrets that could devastate her realm. A quest that pits her and Sebastian against an enemy unlike anything they’ve encountered before.
As demons hunt them, and the dangers expand with every step, Angie’s powers grow more erratic. Uncertain who to trust, time becomes their enemy. Because if they fail, no one will be safe.
From the demons. Or from Angie.
Don’t miss this heart-pounding final book in the acclaimed Demon Witch series. With everything on the line, and the fate of Angie, Sebastian, and the entire human world hanging in the balance.
***
In addition to the release of Apocalypse Witch, I have the latest Haunts and Howls collection out!
First, I want to apologize for this one being a little later this year than usual. I do like to have the Haunts and Howls collections out in October for spooky season, but the year got away from me. Hopefully the plan for next year leaves us enough room to get everything lined up and the 2026 Haunts and Howls released at its usual time of year.
But! It is officially here now. And since the theme for this collection is Dragons... Well, those are just as fun in December as they are in October. Really, anytime is a good time for dragons.
HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES is out at my store today and will be out everywhere on December 17th. The trade paperbacks and large print paperbacks will release on December 17th as well, so for my print readers, that's the release date for you. (I'll post a reminder next month :D)
HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES
In this latest Haunts and Howls collection of seven new contemporary fantasy stories, bestselling author Kat Simons delivers dragon tales from the quiet to the epic. From the truly deadly, to the sublime. Don’t miss every delicious, dangerous adventure into the realms of dragons. Including a brand new DestinyCats novella!
***
I'll have more about the other new editions of the Demon Witch series next month, so keep an eye out for that. I've been debating uploading the duology as an eBook, just to give readers alternatives. The print edition of Howling Dreadful on a Moonlit Strange (the combined book of the two prequel stories in the series) will be released with the other updated print books. I wasn't going to upload the eBook, but I did at the store and now I think I will everywhere. The more options, the better, right? More on that next month!
***
Finally, for my Dragon Thief readers! One of the things that got behind over the course of this autumn were the next two Dragon Thief books. They're written and queued up for editing, but the editing process got behind.
SO, Dragon Thief book 11 will be out in January now. I'll have more on that next month. And because I'm behind, I'll have it out everywhere at the same time (though, of course, I appreciate it a lot when you buy direct! That's the best option for supporting me and my writing. But getting the books anywhere at all is super great too).
I'm still working on the 2026 schedule, so hopefully by next months update, I'll be able to give you a more solid release date for Book 12 in the series. And then, there will be a slight delay before I launch the third season of the Dragon Thief.
I need to get some backlogged projects and stories released over 2026, and since I am not, as it turns out, a four person team all on my own, the work involved will require I delay getting new Dragon Thief books out until probably 2027. All goes to plan (ha!), Book 13 should start the Third Season in January 2027. (And for the record, I cannot believe I'm talking about things in the year 2027. That makes my little GenX brain wobbly. When did that happen!?!)
I will keep you all updated! And you can check back here monthly for news. But in the meantime, there are still two more Dragon Thief stories on their way! And they're an awful lot of fun. :)
Okay, that's more than enough for this late in the month! LOL.
Until next month! Happy Reading.
May 20, 2025
Happy May It's My Birthday Month!
Spring is in full swing here in New York and all the allergies are activated. LOL. There's also a lot of rain. Which is lovely except that it puts a damper on baseball season.
BUT! We have books. And reading. So that's good stuff.
I also celebrated a birthday this month! Had a lovely day and got some very sweet presents from my family. My whipped ganache for my brownie cake failed several times, though, so now I'm going to be making chocolate ganache and whipping it up until I cracked the issue and can make gorgeous ganache (I'm really bothered by the fact that it kept failing! LOL). So if anyone is wondering why I'm bouncing off the walls from a chocolate high over the next few weeks, that'll be the reason. Other than the failed ganache, though, I had a lovely birthday and am delighted to have made it one more time around the sun!
In the publishing arena this month, things are relatively quiet--specifically scheduled that way so I'd have plenty of time to do Kickstarter fulfillment. I do have a standalone short story from last year's Haunts and Howls collection out wide today. There is a fun angsty romance short story up at The Cafe now. And I have some look ahead news to let you all know about.
This month's release is THE TROLL AND THE DRESSMAKER, a fantasy fairytale with some unexpected heroes. This was originally published in HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES, so for my print readers, that's the way to get the story. But if you just want to read the standalone eBook for THE TROLL AND THE DRESSMAKER, now's the time to get it.
THE TROLL AND THE DRESSMAKER
A story for a stone. A stone to save her people…
The village life of a dressmaker comes with few surprises but a lot of activity. Just the way Erin likes it. She still has time to visit her best friend in the neighboring village, only has to travel to the castle occasionally, and generally enjoys her quiet life. Even when a troll takes up residence under the bridge leading out of the village, the only thing it requires to allow passage is a story. If the troll likes the story, it leaves the teller a stone.
Erin regales the troll with many stories as she crosses the bridge, but never receives a stone. She accepts her tales just don’t please the troll. Not everyone can spin stone-worthy stories. And at least the troll doesn’t otherwise bother her.
But when a mysterious threat starts to stalk the village, Erin learns just how valuable a good story can be. Because one story will be the difference between saving the lives of the people she loves, or the death of everything she holds dear.
Author’s Note: The Troll and the Dressmaker is also published in the contemporary fantasy collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES.
THE CAFE AT KATSIMONSBOOKS
The latest Cafe story is available to read for free now! And SAM AND BECKY AT THE CAFE is a lovely angsty Romance with a "my best friend's sister" trope and a very guilty hero looking to make amends.
And with that, I've officially offered my 11th free short story at the Cafe. After June's two stories release, that will be six months and time for a collection! I've started to put that together. It'll be out in eBook and Print (Trade and Large Print) from KatSimonsBooks on July 23rd, and released everywhere else on the 30th of July.
I'll have the preorders for that up soon, so check back here or keep an eye out at KatSimonsBooks for those details.
***
As I mentioned above, I've spent a lot of time in May working on the fulfillment for the Kickstarter for The Dragon Thief Series Omnibus. And I'd just like to once again say THANK YOU to the people who were able to back the Kickstarter. It's been really fun getting to make fancy editions of this book.
In addition to being able to do the fancy omnibus editions, I was also able to put the individual stories into their own individual print editions! Those books should be populating out now to the various vendors for a wide release on August 5th. The next day, August 6th, is the wide release of THE DRAGON THIEF SERIES, SEASON ONE, Omnibus in eBook and Trade paperback.
The eBook, Trade paperback editions of the individual book and the omnibus, and the fancy paperback, hardback, and slipcases will all be available through KatSimonsBooks in June. so look out for those! I'll have more the details next month, but the eBook is currently up for Preorder if you don't want to miss it.
Next month is actually another all Dragon Thief, all the Time sort of month, because I'll have a new Dragon Thief story releasing at KatSimonsBooks in the Second Season--book 9, THE PAYBACK JOB--and Book 8 in the series, THE GREEN SCROLL JOB releases wide! So more details on that next month as well.
***
Okay, that's all for this month! I'll have all the Dragon Thief release details and links next month, as well as some look ahead news for July and August.
In the meantime, I hope the transition season, be it spring or autumn, is treating you well!
Happy Reading!
~Kat
Romance Month 2025
For a writer of Romance, I'm not really keen on Valentine's Day. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I don't like the idea of promoting Romance BOOKS this time of year.
AND because it's also Black History Month, I will recommend some brilliant Black Romance Authors whose work I adore! There are soooo many Black authors I love love love, so this is a very brief and not even close to complete list of some Romance authors to check out (if you haven't already!) Farrah Rochon writes a lot of great Romances, but I think my particular favorite are the Boyfriend Project books. Check out Rebekah Weatherspoon's books for a mix of super hot and remarkably sweet. Kwana Jackson's books, particularly for me Real Men Knot, are all wonderful. She also writes as KM Jackson. Finally, Celestine Martin's Paranormal Romances are adorable. I love the entire Elemental Love series. Especially if you're looking for cozy paranormal slow burn romance. Just delicious!
So! Go forth and purchase lots of lovely reading!
Now! On to my own books. LOL. I have a couple of new releases AND the official prelaunch page to the new Kickstarter is up!
~~~

Kickstarter first! I'm very excited about this one. This will be for the entire first season of The Dragon Thief series put together into one big omnibus edition, which will get a relatively nice paperback edition and a super fancy deluxe paperback edition!

For more, visit the prelaunch page and please consider following that page so you'll be notified the minute it launches! This helps the launch get off to a good start, too, which helps the campaign as a whole. Thank you!

This should be lots of fun. I'm really looking forward to seeing this deluxe edition created!

~~~
And on that note, for new releases this month, I am officially starting the new season of the Dragon Thief!
Season Two is going to be lots of fun. We shift gears ever so slightly and add a team into the mix for Myra and Christopher and that...complicates things, but is also proving fun. The new book, THE CROWN OF KINGSHIP JOB is out now at my store, and available for preorder wide. It will come out from the wide vendors in April, so if you want to order from one of them, highly recommend the preorder so you don't forget (I'll remind everyone, too, though *grin*)
~~~

I also have a second story from HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES releasing as a standalone eBook this month! It will be out everywhere on February 25th and is available for preorder now.

This one is another Irish set, pretty weird fairytale story, which I hope readers will enjoy! For my print readers, the best place to get this story is still in the collection.

TEXT: Kat Simons, THE DANCE IN FALLOW FIELDS AT MIDNIGHT, Published in Haunts and Howls and Fairy Dales, Resist the call to the dance when the Fae are about at night...
TO DANCE IN FALLOW FIELDS AT MIDNIGHT
Out February 25th

Resist the call to the dance when the Fae are about…

Becks rented the country cottage in Ireland to live out a long-held dream of writing in Ireland surrounded by history and myth and some good Irish beer. But the difficulties of the real world followed her to the Emerald Isle along with a frustrating case of writer’s block. Deadlines, business issues, and a novel that decides not to write itself leave Becks wandering the fields, looking for inspiration. Or even just a little of that magic she’d hoped to capture on her trip.

Hearing laughter in a fallow field, mysterious mists crawling along the rich dark soil, and a warning from the local pub owner leave her wondering what magic those fields really hold. What creatures lay beyond that thin mist. What dangers taunt her during the dark nights with music that calls her to the dance.

Becks discovers much more than she bargained for on her trip to a country cottage in Ireland. Including a threat that feels all too real. And a call to a world that, if she dares enter, could lead down a path to her destruction.

Author’s Note: To Dance in Fallow Fields at Midnight is also published in the contemporary fantasy collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES.

~~~
And finally quick reminder to visit The Café at KatSimonsBooks for new free short story reads this month! Frank at the Café is available for a few more days. Then I have an adorable Sapphic romance especially for Romance month releasing on the 15th, called Betty and Al at the Café!
Remember, if you miss a story and want to catch up before the collection of stories releases in July, you can pick up each of the stories individually from KatSimonsBooks.
January 21, 2025
Happy 2025!
Happy New Year! I hope the start of this new year is treating you kindly. I know it is not for some people (thinking about the massive wildfires in California as I write this), and my heart goes out to you. I hope you get support and healing, and the rest of the year is kinder.
For my part, January is its usual crazy start to the new year, but it's mostly good stuff, so I will take that!
This month, I have a new Joan of Kerry story out! And a short story from the last Haunts and Howls collection has released as a standalone story. The third Stories from the Café story is up at The Café now as well!
~~~

JOAN AND THE GOBLINS is available now at my store and will be available at other vendors on March 18th. The preorder for wide purchases is up now, or you can pick the book up at KatSimonsBooks.com now, if you're the impatient type.

Also, for my print readers, I have enough Joan or Kerry stories now to put together a nice print collection, so look for that later in 2025.

JOAN AND THE GOBLINS
A Joan of Kerry Story

Buy Direct |

All other eBook vendors | PREORDER. OUT March 18th

Bogs, goblins, and a monster more ancient than a dragon…

Joan and her dragon companion Rory find themselves on the hunt. For goblins. A group of annoying goblins who have stolen something they shouldn’t have touched. Something that could raise a monster so deadly and so ancient, even Rory doesn’t have a name for the creature.

Goblins without a king are goblins causing trouble. Goblins trying to be the king cause chaos that could get the entire island of Ireland destroyed. Joan and Rory must stop the would-be king and his companions before it’s too late. Before the deadly monster comes looking for its stolen treasure.

Because even a hero, her dragon, and her legendary sword might not be enough to stop this ancient threat.

~~

Also new this month is the standalone eBook of Black Water Hawthorns, a creepy, weird fairy story from the 2024 Haunts and Howls collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES. If you're a print reader, I recommend picking up the collection, but if you'd just like one or two of the individual eBook stories from the collection, those are rolling out this year.

Black Water Hawthorns is available wherever eBooks are sold!

BLACK WATER HAWTHORNS

Beware the darkest waters, for monsters lurk in their depths…

Ph.D. student Deirdre’s late nights of study have left her exhausted and punch drunk. But she’s so close to the end, so close to finishing her thesis she can taste it. Even the stories of missing people around the Dublin campus can’t deter her. Especially when those tales all have logical explanations. The nervous, jumpy energy on campus worries her a little. But she’s got too much to do to think about the mysteries.

Until a strange dizzy spell bends her world. When she recovers, everything still mostly looks like her college campus in Dublin Ireland. But everything has shifted a bit sideways. Everything looks a little strange. Threatening. And when the red-eyed creature out of myth and legend appears, Deirdre knows she’s either lost it…

Or she is no longer in the ordinary world.

Following a strange creature into a strange realm never ends well for hapless humans. Yet Deirdre finds herself doing just that. Hoping she can find her way home. Before the black water monster lurking among the hawthorns catches her. And traps her forever.

~~

Finally, be sure to check in at THE CAFE at KatSimonsBooks for the latest free reads! From the 15th, Agnes at the Café is available. And a new story will post on February 1st.

For those who'd like to catch up, I've decided (thanks to a recommendation by some fellow publishers) to make the individual stories available for sale from KatSimonsBooks. The full collection of short Café stories will still come out every six months with the previous six months worth of stories. And that collected edition will be available in eBook and Print editions. But if you've missed a story and don't want to wait, or prefer reading on a device of your choice rather than off the blog, or just like a particular story and want your own copy, you can purchase individual eBooks of the stories once they go live in The Café.

~~~
Next month, be sure to look out for another standalone eBook from last year's Haunts and Howls collection, as well as a new Dragon Thief story! AND news on the upcoming Dragon Thief Kickstarter!
More on all that in February.
Until then, Happy Reading!
November Updates and Sales
Well. There's been a lot of behind the scenes work going on down my way, including some updates for my other pseudonym Isabo Kelly. More on that below. But as a heads up, this is a long post with lots of stuff in it.
SALES
First, the time sensitive information. There are SALES everywhere going on right now. Including for one of the Isabo Kelly books which I think my Kat Simons readers will enjoy. Most of the sales listed below are easiest to get from KatSimonsBooks, but some of them are available at other stores too. And for Amazon, if they don't have one of the books I have listed for free available for free, see if they'll price match! They're sort of slow to do that sometimes.
First up, and to be very blunt, I was one of the people...unhappy with the US election results. There was a lot of anger swirling in my gut directly afterward, as well as fear for the future of this country. I say this bluntly here because I feel like if you disagree with this, you probably won't like my fiction anyway and this is as good a time as any to establish that.
That said, because of the anger I was experiencing right after the election, I put one of my most angry heroines on sale! The aptly titled ANGER MANAGEMENT is free most places and where it isn't see if they'll price match to get it free. You can also just get it directly from KatSimonsBooks and not worry about that price matching stuff.
Frankly, even if you aren't from the US and upset by the election, the opening scene in this story might be cathartic anyway. It sure was for me to write!
The others sales are easiest to see from the store's sales page, including THE TROUBLE WITH BLACK CATS AND DEMONS still free, and the first book in the Demon Witch series, BONE LANTERN WITCH still only $0.99 from my store. There are some other shorter works on sale at the store as well, which aren't available for sale anywhere else. So now's a good time to check those out!
~~
ISABO KELLY
And now the exciting Isabo Kelly news! As I hope most of you know by now, but for those who don't, I started writing under the name Isabo Kelly a very long time ago. She still has quite a bit out available in print and I occasionally commit a new Isabo Kelly book. She doesn't get as much love as the Kat Simons' name, though, BUT she will now be available from KatSimonsBooks! I've even given Isabo her own page there so readers will know specifically which Isabo books are available.
Isabo's fiction will be moving over slowly over the next few months. So watch for more. For now, though, I have moved four of my favorite Isabo books over, AND given them all new covers, new fancy interiors, and there will be semi-fancy print editions rolling out soon (those are already rolling out at Amazon for print and in eBook everywhere).
The FIRE AND TEARS series are very sexy epic fantasy romances, which could fall into the romantasy category for those who like those kind of books. They take place in a fantasy city under siege by invading wizards, the neighboring elven city has claimed neutrality and aren't coming to help the humans, and the humans are losing the war. So dark, but sexy, and chocked full of action as well.
There are a lot of enemies to lovers and second chance romances involved in the three stories. And if that's not enough fun, the third book in the trilogy, DAWN IGNITED, has one of my most favorite redeemed bad guy heroes I've ever written. He was such an ass so it was great fun to put him through the wringer and redeem him.
AND (finally the sales information LOL), through the first week of December, the omnibus edition, which is the entire series in one book, FIRE AND TEARS: Series Collection Books 1-3 is available for only $1.99 in eBook! This sale is going on everywhere, too, so it's a great time to try out an Isabo Kelly romantasy if you've been meaning to give her a try. The collection includes all three books in the series in one file and in a single paperback edition.
~~
NEW RELEASE
With all that sales news and the Isabo Kelly news, I should also mention that there's a new release this month as well. From the 2023 Haunts and Howls Collection, HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS, the last story from that collection is now available in a standalone eBook edition.
SOPHIE SAVES THE WORLD is out everywhere now, and maybe might be a bit of fun for readers looking for both an escape and some humor in their world-saving adventures.
SOPHIE SAVES THE WORLD
Tending bar couldn’t prepare her for an adventure through the universe. Who knew?
When someone walks through Sophie’s bathroom wall, the hardworking bartender is understandably confused. First, because someone walked through the seemingly solid wall of her bathroom. And second, because that someone is small and green, smells weirdly like peppermint, and says his name is Gerald.
He also claims she needs to save his world.
Sophie does not consider herself the world-saving type. In fact, she would argue she is the least qualified world-saving person to ever be offered the opportunity to save a world. But fate has a twisted sense of humor.
Bravery rises at the strangest times, in the strangest places, though. So maybe a plucky bartender from Las Vegas really can save the world. Or at least not die trying.
Author’s Note: This story is also published in the collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS.
~~
KAT SIMONS BOOKS
And finally, some news to watch out for for next month! I have a special new section at KatSimonsBooks that will be opening soon. THE CAFE AT KATSIMONSBOOKS!
I'm one of those booky people who loves having a coffee shop or café attached to or right next to my bookstore. I've always had that daydream of owning my own café/bookstore in real life. And I realized that now that I have an online bookstore, there was no reason not to also attach a café! So that's what I'm doing. *grin*
The initial pages are up now, along with the first introductory blog. There's even coffee to buy if you are in the US. There will be more features to this new section rolling out over the course of the new year, but to get us started, the very first features starts in December.
On the 1st and 15th of every month, I'll have an all new free short story, set in the café, available for readers to enjoy. The details about those stories are in the introductory blog, so you can read that. You can also check back here next month for more details.
My intention for the café is to make it a more interactive place for readers to hang out, get a free story, maybe set up some virtual chats, possible do author readings... There are a lot of possibilities and I'll be playing with those in 2025. I hope you'll join me! It'll be fun.
~~
SO that was a lot of updates and information. I'll be back next month with more about the new Dragon Thief story out in December as well as more details about THE CAFE.
Until then, I hope you're treating yourself gently and with a great deal of patience. And that you are getting to enjoy some fantastic new books.
Happy reading!
HAPPY OCTOBER!!
Well and truly in the midst of the Halloween season now! And it's even feeling autumnal here in New York at the moment with cooler weather. I hope those of you in the southern hemisphere are getting your warm-up finally! Spring is just as groovy as autumn.
So for October, there's a lot happening. Two releases and a whole lot of sales!
First up, and OUT NOW, and perfect for spooky season, the next Haunts and Howls collection. HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES is my ode to, mostly Irish, fairytales. There's also a new Cary Redmond story and a new Friday's Curious Shop story in this collection!
HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES
A Haunts and Howls Contemporary Fantasy Collection
Trade Print: Amazon | B&N | Blackwells | Bookshop.org |
Tread carefully through haunted dales where fairies dance…
For when the Fae are about, magic and mischief run free. Wild, unpredictable, neither friend nor fiend. Fairies cross the boundaries between light and dark, taking the unwary on rides through the impossible. The deadly.
And here, at the crossroads, in a shop, by a field, the Fae awaken terror and hope. Only the brave, or the luckless, dare tangle with these immortals. Hoping to survive the night.
Hunt the fairies. If you dare.
Myths, legends, and haunting tales dance through this collection of seven all new spooky contemporary fantasy stories from bestselling author Kat Simons. Don’t miss this latest in the Haunts and Howls series, including a brand new Cary Redmond novella.
~~
HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND FAIRY DALES is out everywhere in eBook and Trade paperback and Large Print paperback editions. The paperbacks are, of course, still populating through everywhere, so keep checking on those. You can always swing by my store for paperbacks since I have those there now for some of the series, including Haunts and Howls. But at the moment, it's mostly the Trade paperbacks. I'm still working on moving the Large Print over.
Next up this month, and out today at my store, next week wide, the next Dragon Thief story!
THE FEMME FATALE JOB is a really fun addition to the series. Things are heating up with Maya and Christopher, and an unexpected guest drops in. Not a welcome one. Don't miss this latest in the series!
THE FEMME FATALE JOB
A Dragon Thief Story, Book 5
No one saw her coming…
After the last job for the dragon king, Myra vows never again. No more. But for Christopher, and for whatever these feelings developing between them might be… She can’t say no. Especially if the job involves a damsel in distress. Myra’s dragon shifter prince just can’t resist rescuing people in trouble. And when he needs a thief to do that, Myra happily jumps in. The job might be skirting the line between working for the dragon king and not working for the dragon king, but Myra willingly walks that line for Christopher.
What starts out as a simple case of helping one woman rescue her career, though, quickly turns into something Myra never expected, something no one expected. A foe so deadly, so terrifying, that if they get this wrong, the entire island of Manhattan could burn.
Pitting a magical thief and her dragon shifter prince against one of the most terrifying creatures on the planet… How can they possibly survive?
By stealing something of course.
Before everything goes up in flames.
~~
The sixth book in the series, THE SCAVENGER JOB, will be out in December! December 3rd at my store, up for preorder now, and December 10th wide, preorder most places now. This has a bit of a holiday, Christmas-y theme to it, and romance readers will finally get their payout for this slow burn romance! More details next month.
For my print readers, do not despair! I will have the full collection of this first season of Dragon Thief available in print in 2025. In fact, I am planning a fun Kickstarter for a special edition hardback as well as having some fancy paperbacks and an ordinary paperback edition. So print readers will get all the good stuff! More on that as I start setting things up, but there will be paperbacks, I promise.
SALES!!
This month there are a lot of books on sale at my store, some at deep discounts and some free. Don't miss out!
Also, I have THE TROUBLE WITH BLACK CATS AND DEMONS on sale now. Get this first in series in eBook FREE everywhere.
As is probably obvious, I'm still writing books in the Cary Redmond series, because they are fun for me and I love these characters. In fact, book 9 in the series is written and going to be going into editing soon for a 2025 release! I'll have more information about that when things start moving, but in the meantime, if you'd like to catch up on the series, this is a great time to pick up the first book.
~~
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
As promised I have completely decked out KatSimonsBooks for Halloween and even if you don't buy your books directly there, you really have to see the place. The main page feels like I tossed a bunch of black and orange sprinkles all over the place! LOL.
Next month, if I get everything lined up the way I'd like, I will have a little surprise launching at the store (which will include free reading!) I've been hinting, I know. But since November 1st is my particular witchy New Year's day, I feel like it's a good time to launch this new venture. Check the site in early November or check back here for more information!
And until next month, may your October treat you well and may there be all the fun and spooky things you might like for this month--costumes, treats, scary movies, and of course, scary reading!
Happy Reading!
August 22, 2024
Late for August....
The summer (in my neck of the woods) is in the last weeks, and I am late with the page update. LOL. Trips all summer culminating in my youngest getting sick and then me getting sick robbed me of all the energy. But the trips at least were fun.
So this month is just a quick note about releases and I’ll post more next month on all the things.
First up, and out now everywhere, the fourth book in the Dragon Thief series! Myra is back and in real hot water this time.
What does a wizard want from the dragon king…
And what do they both want from Myra? Questions she asks herself, repeatedly, while trapped in a vault. A circumstance that leaves her questioning all her life choices. Unfortunately, curiosity bit her again. Because both the dragon king and the wizard lied to her about this job.
A job to steal a relic with nefarious powers.
A job that Christopher doesn’t know about.
Myra trusts the wizard and the king about as far as she can throw them, but she also desperately wants to know what they’re up to. And why Christopher’s father cut him out of this scheme. She also needs to know what the dragon king really wants from her, once and for all. Because her feelings for Christopher grow with every passing moment. Only one thing keeps getting in the way of exploring those feelings. The king.
But before she can get her answers, she has to survive her current job.
And she has to escape the impenetrable vault before time, and her air, runs out.
And out next week, another standalone story from last year’s Haunts and Howls collection. This is one of the weirder stories from that collection. TING LING is available everywhere for preorder now and releases on Tuesday August 27th.
Beware the noise behind the walls…And the dropped Cheetos
Albert just wants some peace and quiet. Work and silence and no disturbances. Instead, a noise…a ringing noise in his apartment drives him to distraction. The noise even invades his dreams. When he realizes the ringing is coming from inside the walls, Albert really starts to worry. Anything could be behind that wall. Anything could be making that sound.
Discovering the truth, however, proves more terrifying, and strange, than anything Albert could have expected.
Author’s Note: This story is also published in the collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS.
That’s all for this month, short and sweet, but check back next month for the next Demon Witch novel as well as another standalone from Haunts and Howls and Jesters Bells.
Happy Reading!
July 16, 2024
Happy July!
We have hit the crest of the year and are on the downward slope now! LOL. Which feels really weird since 2024 has so far felt quite long and equally has flown by. Another year around the sun!
This month, I have a new Percy James book out! Details below. I'm almost to enough Percy James Mysteries that I can put them together in a collection so my paperback readers can pick them up if they like. Look out for that some time in 2025 (I just scared myself typing that).
The other release this month is a standalone eBook from last year's HAUNTS AND HOWLS collection. This one is I Just Ate A Bug. If you want to pick it up as a standalone, I have an explanation for that title in the Thank You at the end of the story <grin> I Just Ate A Bug is out July 30th and available for preorder now!
REPLICAS RISK RUIN
A Percy James Mystery
Welcome to the Azur Regent
February brings calm and quiet to the Azur Regent. But for a sleep deprived Percy James, she could do with a little more excitement. Or a night’s sleep. A full night’s sleep would really help. With her baby niece sick and her sister losing her mind over the baby’s first cold, Percy starts to feel like a walking zombie.
She even starts imagining things with one of the few guests staying at the hotel. Percy prides herself on her cheerful work ethic. Seeing suspicious things where none exist proves she needs more than makeup to cover the circles under her eyes.
Fortunately, working at a hotel comes with perks. A night of uninterrupted, undisturbed sleep will put Percy back to rights.
Except nothing at the Azur Regent is ever that simple. Even a night’s sleep.
I JUST ATE A BUG
OUT JULY 30th
Fighting an alien invasion requires a good appetite…
I’m an out of work dog walker who never expected to confront the end of the world in my lifetime. Especially not when that end of the world comes in the form of an alien invasion. Who expects that to happen for real, right? But there you have it. Aliens. Invading Earth.
And only a rough band of us humans to defend the entire planet.
With the only weapons we have.
If we can stomach using it.
Author’s Note: This story is also published in the collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS.
NEWS AND UPDATES
So! My website seems to be doing most things the way it's supposed to again, but I'm still leery. I'm not prepared to move the whole thing at the moment. But I am going to start changing the back pages so they all direct to the store. You won't have to shop there, of course! But I keep it updated with new releases and back list titles, and I'll start including the universal links on the various book pages (once I figure out how to *grin*).
Just in general, I'd prefer to only have to update one site with all the details. I realized recently I'm very behind on updating another of my websites. Obviously, I need to simplify!
This page will continue to be here! And I will continue to update the main page monthly (or more). But the back pages with all the books in various genres will eventually point to the pages at the store to make life simpler. Again, I don't expect people to only shop at my store (though I'd love it if you wanted to!!). In fact, I'm happy for people to pick my books up from wherever suits them, including libraries!, and just use my website or store to keep up with what's out and reading orders and things.
This change over will take me time and probably won't be visible to visitors to the site until Fall of 2024. Maybe later. Depends on other aspects of the business. But I wanted to give you all a heads up well in advance of the change, so you'll know it's coming.
~~
Speaking of the store, though, I have some new Merchandise up now that's great fun! Consider going over to check it out! And I'm slowly getting the paperbacks up there too, and ensuring the shipping is set up right. So before the end of the year, it'll be a great resource for keeping up to date on all my releases anyway.
AND sometime in 2025, I'll start adding my alter ego Isabo Kelly to the store and all her books. So that's something to look out for, too.
~~
Looking ahead to next month, I have the fourth Dragon Thief book out! And I'll have another standalone eBook for a story from HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS. Both stories are up everywhere for preorder now, so if you're eager to ensure they're in your reader the day of, go check that out now!
Until next month, I hope you're enjoying the season!
Happy Reading!
This month I have a spooky new book in my Demon Witch series out! STORM SHADOW WITCH, book 3 in the series is available in eBook from all vendors including Kat Simons Books! STORM SHADOW WITCH
A Demon Witch Novel, Book 3
Storms on the horizon call to demon nightmares…
Angie Jordan’s time as a demon hunter has proven two things to her. One, she’s not and never will be a hunter. And two, she’s not getting out of the demon world any time soon. The only shining light in that darkness is having the love of her life, Sebastian, back.
But after trouble last Halloween broke open new powers for Angie, controlling her growing magic proves too challenging to do alone. Her only hope at mastering the demon witch magic before it overwhelms her…help from her first mentor and teacher.
And that means a trip home to New Mexico.
Returning to her family brings unexpected dangers, though. Threats Angie thought she left behind in New York. And a confrontation with a mysterious enemy who threatens everything she loves.
Pushed into a corner, Angie will protect those closest to her, no matter the cost. But even Sebastian’s help might not be enough against their current enemies. And when Angie must face her worst nightmares, the biggest threat to those around her might not be the demons. The biggest threat…
Might be her.
NEWS and UPDATES
Next month (as it's what the Non-Die-Hards consider the start of spooky season) I have a bunch of things out.
First, there's the release of two standalone eBooks from last years Haunts and Howls collect, HAUNTS AND HOWLS WHERE DEMONS DWELL. Friday's Curious Shop will be out October 10th and The Museum of Small Arts Everyman will be out on Halloween!! My spookiest of spooky stories for Halloween. *grin* Check back next months for links!
And I have a brand new Haunts and Howls collection out in the middle of October! This one has a strange theme because it's a kind of two-fer.
HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS has fantasy stories that are both light and humorous (my kind of humor so... you know, weird LOL) and spooky stories to go with the Haunts and Howls theme. And also because jesters are like clowns and clowns are scary!
There will also be sequel stories for two previous stories published in the last two Haunts and Howls books! If you haven't read the previous two collections, now's a good time to consider them.
Check back next month for all the details on the new releases. You can also find information about new releases at my fan store Kat Simons Books!
Until next month, enjoy the start of spooky season! (even though its still too hot up here in the Northern Hemisphere!)
Happy Reading!
