Two Releases and I'm really bad at post titles...

Every month, I find myself trying for something either descriptive or even a little pithy for the titles of these posts. And every month, I fail miserably. Just so you know. I am bad at titles. And that includes website page titles. LOL.

Anyway, happy June! This month, I have two novella eBook releases.

The first is the standalone release of a Cary Redmond novella, previously published in the A Very Cary Holiday collection. The second is a new short novella in a soft-boiled, amateur sleuth mystery series I've been playing in!

CARY'S BELTANE NIGHT OUT
A Cary Redmond Novella

Out June 13th

Beltane, bonfires, magic…and human sacrifice?

When Cary Redmond ends up at a Beltane celebration with her best friend, the witch Angie Jordan, Cary knows she’s in for an interesting night. Trouble swirls in the air right alongside the campfire smell. Magic and danger and people to protect. All in a night’s work for a magical Protector and her powerful best friend. But Cary gets a lot more than she bargains for.

A field full of bespelled pagans trying to throw themselves into a giant bonfire only starts a night of deadly danger. Because inside that fire, the real threat lurks. A threat impossible to destroy.

And if Cary can’t figure out what’s going on in time, a lot of people will burn.

MOVIES MAY MURDER
A Percy James Mystery

Out June 27th

Welcome to the Azur Regent

Percy James rarely trudges through a dull day at her job as a front desk clerk of a small boutique hotel on the Upper East Side. New York City draws all kinds, and a lot of the more interesting people end up at the Azur Regent. Percy loves the variety. Always a story to tell. Always something interesting happening.

But sometimes things can get maybe a little too interesting.

Because even small boutique hotels turn up occasional trouble. Like the guest room covered in blood.

Uncovering the culprit and keeping the other guests safe, all while not getting reprimanded by her boss… Percy will count that as a good day at work.

So long as no one dies.

~~

Quick note about paperback prices: Amazon has had to raise their printing costs this month and that has necessitated raising some of my print book prices. This mostly affects the Large Print paperback editions. I have tried to keep the prices as reasonable as possible. And where I can, I've kept the prices the same (this is essentially true across the board with the Trade paperback editions). There might be some hardback price increases as well. Just a heads-up if you notice a price increase.

Next month: I have an sort of experimental thing releasing. I don't want to say too much about it yet until I have it put together, but it's a collection of stories, and there are dragons... More in July!

Until then, enjoy the start of summer, or winter depending on your hemisphere.

April Release and Updates

SPECIAL NOTE: This just came up at the beginning of April, but it appears Book Depository is closing it's doors and will no longer be taking orders from April 26th. This means I'll be removing the Book Depository links from the site and obviously won't have them going forward. The grapevine tells me that Blackwells in the UK is a good alternative for cheap/free international shipping, so I'll look into that and if it pans out, will start adding those links in. I am sorry to see Book Depository go, though. They were a great site, particularly for international readers, and their absence will leave a hole.

Okay. Now back to the regular post.

Happy April! This month I have a new Cary Redmond short story and novella collection out!

This one brings together five of the holiday stories I've written in the Cary Redmond world and it includes one novella that hasn't been released yet as a standalone eBook--that one comes out in June as a standalone. But for my print readers, now's the time to get these stories!

Holidays bring friends, family, and…Trouble.

At least if your job title is Magical Protector. Cary Redmond spends most of her holidays jumping into danger. Stopping bad guys, protecting innocents, and doing her job as a walking, talking Kevlar vest. Because magic, mayhem, and disasters don’t take holidays off.

In fact, sometimes the holidays are the problem.

But Cary is always ready to leap into the fight, tackling the dread, the deadly, the bespelled, and the strange. And if she helps a friend along the way, all the better. Because when the holidays bring Trouble, Cary’s on hand to save the day.

Don’t miss this year of Cary Redmond adventures all in one collection.

Includes
Cary and the Cursed Jack-O’-Lantern
Cary Holidays
Cary’s Galentine’s Day
Cary’s Leprechaun Troubles
Cary’s Beltane Night Out

The last story there, Cary's Beltane Night Out, is the story that will be releasing in June. Look out for more information on that coming soon.

IN OTHER NEWS

SALE REMINDER: The box set for the first three books in the Cary Redmond series is still on sale and will remain at a discounted price through April 24th. Only $0.99 for three full length novels, available for a little less than a week more. Don't miss the sale!

Good news for my print readers! Because I'm writing the Demon Witch series a little slower, and there are, so far, only two short story/novellas in the series, that's not enough to put out a print collection yet. But since some of the stuff in the main series references those stories, especially Moonlit Strange, I've been encouraged to put those stories into print. And we have!

Currently, they're only available in trade paperback editions. And because they're small stories, the books are really thin. But they're very cute too!

Proof copies for print editions of
Moonlit Strange and Howling Dreadful

So if you're a paperback reader and you'd like copies of the Demon Witch shorter stories in print, you can find them now!

MOONLIT STRANGE
Trade Paperback: Amazon | B&N | Indie Bound | Angus&Robertson

HOWLING DREADFUL
Trade Paperback: Amazon | B&N | Indie Bound | Angus&Robertson

Getting the individual short stories into print is a little complicated but doable, so for the shorts that aren't available in print collections and won't be for awhile, I'll try to get them into print individually. There's one Cary Redmond novella, Cary and Dragons and Goblins, that fits into the main Cary Redmond series right between book 5 and book 6 and isn't in a print collection anywhere that will be my next adventure in tiny print books. After that, we'll look at what's left that isn't in some version of print somewhere.

Also for the Large Print readers, I will be trying to get all these shorts into large print editions too. That just might take a little longer, but it's in the plan. Check back or feel free to email me using the contact form at the side of the site, or just email direct at: katsimonsauthor @ gmail.com (without the spaces) for updates. I'll be updating in my newsletter too, if you want to just join that and get the news direct to your inbox.

~~

In May, I'll have information about book 3 in the Seven Families: Wolf series! FATED IN STONE is currently finishing the production process and should be available for preorder soon. Check back next
month for more details!

~~

And finally, I'm working behind the scenes with an update to the website. I have enough books and enough series out now that the way I have things organized is getting a little unwieldy. So I'm going to be reorganizing by genre in the tabs instead of by series. The set up will be similar to my Bookstore, so that should also make things easier even moving between the two places. The updates won't go live until I've finished moving things around in the background, but you could see them as early as the end of this month. Hopefully no later than the end of May.

It's a fun problem to have, having to reorganize the site because I've got that many books out now *grin*

Until next month, I hope April is treating you kindly and you've found a lot of good books to read!

February Part 2

A week late, but we made February--barely. The newest Cary Redmond novella is out now! And actually, in the end, the timing is probably better. This is a St. Patrick's Day story and at this stage, we're getting pretty close to St. Patrick's Day.

CARY'S LEPRECAUN TROUBLES
A Cary Redmond Novella

Because of course leprechaun trouble on St. Patrick’s Day…

When magical Protector Cary Redmond’s mentor asks for her help, she finds herself in a grocery store parking lot on a beautiful spring day. Staring at the best dressed leprechaun she’s ever seen. And since that leprechaun irritates her mentor a lot, Cary decides this mission could be fun.

The trouble the leprechaun brings with him…not so fun.

Saving the day, finding an ancient relic, preventing the bad guys from driving all humankind into the sea… What better way to spend St. Patrick’s Day.

So long as she can manage to hold off the deadly plot without anyone getting killed.

Don’t miss the latest adventure in the life of Portland’s resident magical Protector, as she tries to keep the good guys safe, and the beer green.

~~~
For regular readers of the Cary Redmond series, this story is the introduction of Tom, the leprechaun who really gets under Jaxer's skin. Tom shows up in both The Trouble with Black Cats and Demons (Book 1) and The Trouble with Magic and Faery Curses (Book 5). But if this is your first Cary story, it stands on its own and can be read without reading any other story in the series.
In April, I'll have the next collection of Cary Redmond short out. Including one story that hasn't published as a stand alone yet. For my paperback readers, that will be the time to get this story as well as the other holiday stories I've got in the Cary world. More on that in April.
And as a reminder for readers of the series, you can get an free Cary Redmond novella by signing up to my newsletter, a story that isn't available anywhere else. There's also a free short story in my Tiger Shifters world with sign ups, so it's a two-fer.
For the next Seven Families: Wolf novel, Redemption in Stone, that is still on schedule to release in March, but I'm pushing back the date a week, so as of now, the release date will be the 21st of March (coincidentally my husband and my wedding anniversary! Which I just realized LOL). That will give us time to ensure the paperbacks are available by the release date. The preorders will be up soon (I'll add a link here when I get it if it's far enough out). Check back in March for all the details and links.
And until next month, Happy Reading!
First of 2 February Posts
Thanks to a bout of Covid for me and my youngest (sigh) I'm a little behind this month--for the record, we're both doing well, thanks be to vaxxes. He's fully recovered and I'm on the mend. Fingers crossed my oldest and husband don't get sick now. More sighing.
Anyway! Personal note added just so you know that I'll be posting a second update this month. I may have to push out the release of my second story for this month and the novel for next month by about a week each, since I lost a week of work. I will update here as soon as I know.
In the meantime, I did get the Valentine's Day release up and it's out now! Once again, it is not a Valentine's day story or a romance or anything like that. For some reason, I don't lean into publishing my romances on Valentine's Day LOL.
This story is a new Joan of Kerry novella. This time, Joan and Rory face a kraken and adventure ensues. Available in eBook from all vendors as well as available to buy direct from me now!
JOAN AND THE KRAKEN
A Joan of Kerry Story
When an ancient monster arises from the deep…
Joan and her dragon fly to the rescue. Spotting a kraken wrapped around a spit of land off the west coast of Ireland, Joan knows time is against her. When the sun rises, the sea spray and mists won’t hide the mythical monster from human view, or protect humans from the creature’s deadly tentacles.
Getting the kraken away from human habitation proves challenging. And when Joan spots a grounded fishing boat, which the kraken refuses to release, Joan fears the creature has already claimed its first victim.
Facing a kraken, without getting killed, tests even an experienced hero and her dragon. But that’s the job. A job Joan was born to do.
Just her. Her sword. And her dragon.
~~~

I'll have the release details for the newest Cary Redmond novella, Cary's Leprechaun Troubles, in a week or two! And I'll have an update for the release of REDEMPTION IN STONE in that post.

Thanks for your patience!

Spooky Month Brings Spooky Releases!

Happy Spooky Month!! The paranormal writer and readers month to celebrate all things paranormal and spooky *grin* And to celebrate, I have a spooky collection out!

HAUNTS AND HOWLS WHERE DEMONS DWELL is available in eBook, trade paperback, and large print editions.

This is another collection of contemporary fantasy, like the collection last year, except with a demon theme. Because...well, demons. There are also a lot of witches, some vampires, a mystery, a now-for-something-a-little-different story, and more! There are also links to the Demon Witch series in two of the five stories, and an Easter egg for the Cary Redmond series in another--though that one might be too subtle to catch. The collection was really fun to put together and I hope readers enjoy!

For Print readers, there's a hang up with the large print edition which is delaying the distribution. Just slow, but the books will be out soon. The trade print edition is still populating through the channels, so check back for those additional links too. The book should be everywhere soon. The universal link that leads to the eBook vendors will also have the print links added in as I get them, too, so you can always just check that link. Thanks!

HAUNTS AND HOWLS WHERE DEMONS DWELL
eBook
Trade paperback: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository | Indie Bound
LARGE print paperback: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository | Indie Bound | (last link coming soon!)

Dare to tread where demons prowl…

Hidden beneath the surface of the everyday world. Lurking in darkness. Haunting the shadows. Looming just outside the light. The demons call to the unwary, leaving the unsuspecting to fend off doom.

Where demons cavort, heroes arise to battle the encroaching evil. Needing everything they’ve got. Magic. Will. Bravery. And hope for the return of the light.

For lovers of spooky fantasy tales, don’t miss this collection of five original contemporary fantasy stories from bestselling author Kat Simons, including an all new Demon Hunter story.

~~

And speaking of Haunts and Howls, at the end of the month, I have a novella from last year's collection coming out as a stand alone eBook. CARY AT THE HAUNT AND HOWL will be available on October 25th, but is up for preorder now if you don't want to forget about it. This one is Cary on an adventure to a suspect nightclub with Marianne and hijinks ensue.

CARY AT THE HAUNT AND HOWL
eBook

Lights, Music…Trouble.

When Cary Redmond, Portland’s resident magical Protector, agrees to help one of her best friends spy on a rival nightclub, they find a lot more than overpriced drinks and swirling lights. Hidden in the heat and flash and pounding music lurks a deadly threat driven by dangerous magic.

Just the kind of disaster Cary is uniquely qualified to handle. So long as she can find the source of the trouble before it’s too late.

Because if she can’t solve the mystery in the music fast, people will die.

Don’t miss this exciting urban fantasy novella from bestselling author Kat Simons, now available as a standalone eBook. Cary at the Haunt and Howl was originally published in HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND GUARDIAN SPELLS.

Final bit of news. I've given my newsletter subscribers a special Halloween treat this month--a new novella in the Cary Redmond series! This one will only be available to newsletter subscribers, and all new subscribers will get a copy of it (along with a short story from the Tiger Shifters paranormal romance series--a story also only available through the newsletter).

This newsletter exclusive is the story of when Cary meets the Master vampire Ariel--to discuss that whole vampires sucking kitten blood thing. I wasn't sure I'd ever write that story. But when it came out...it was fun to write.

Regular readers of the Cary Redmond series should love this look back into Cary's history, but people who are new to the series, will also be able to enjoy the novella. I've written it as a standalone.

If you're not a current subscriber and would like to join my newsletter for news, updates, and the occasional free read, please join my newsletter now!

Happy Halloween month, everyone!

And until next month, Happy Reading!
