Happy Summer/Winter Solstice!

Summer or winter (and a little late), but welcome to the new season! It's warm and rainy here in NYC, so allergies are bad but the trees are full and pretty.

Last month was wild, and I'm behind because of graduation and little league season, so this will be short and sweet--for me.

Out today! A standalone story from the last Haunts and Howls collection. Print readers, you'll want to pick up the full collection of HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES. But if you just wanted to try one or two stories from the collection and this is one of them, it's available everywhere in eBook now!

THE DRAGON DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Available Everywhere

A stormy afternoon and a rock dragon in a cave…

Growing up, everyone called that pile of rocks in the cave a dragon. Kid imaginations, of course. For as long as I could remember, we visited the “dragon,” played on the rocks, took refuge from the weather, hid from our parents. But once I grew up, the cave became a memory. A place I hadn’t seen in years.

Until a freak rainstorm forces me to take cover in that very cave deep in the woods. Waiting out a storm in the chilly cavern with the rock dragon brings back lots of memories. But… I don’t remember the dragon’s rocks feeling warm. I don’t remember that hole in the side of the dragon.

I don’t remember that smell.

Revisiting that place of childish imagination might have been a bad idea.

Author’s Note: This story is also published in the collection HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND DRAGON TALES, under the title The Dragon Redistribution System.

Next up, if you didn't get the next Cary Redmond book during the Kickstarter but would still like to enjoy Cary and Deacon's family holiday, the preorder for THE TROUBLE WITH FAMILIES AND GOBLINS is up now!

This book will be out in eBook, Trade paperback, and Large Print paperback editions. The paperbacks are still working their way through the system so may or may not be available for preorder yet, but should be up soon.

THE TROUBLE WITH FAMILIES AND GOBLINS
Cary Redmond Book 9

Available Everywhere--PREORDER NOW
Out July 7th

Trouble meets the family…

Back from Scotland and ready to settle into this new version of her job as a magical Protector, Cary Redmond faces only one big problem. Thanksgiving. More specifically, Thanksgiving with her family of mundane humans and her mate Deacon Jones’s family of leopard shifters.

Cary’s parents have no idea that shapeshifters exist in the world. Deacon’s mother happens to be the queen of the local leopard shifters. Not just the parents plan to gather for dinner, but every single member of each family intends to be there. And every single one of these people in one small house for one big meal means… Trouble.

Fine. Good. Manageable. No problem.

Except for the goblins.

And the mysterious dog.

And, of course, her former faery mentor Jaxer.

And her sister’s pregnancy.

But everything is fine. Cary controls her Protector magic now. Thanksgiving involves lots of food and drink. All good. No problem. What could go wrong?

Oh boy…

In this return Kat Simons’ acclaimed Cary Redmond urban fantasy romance series, Trouble picks a family holiday to add a little light chaos to Cary’s already chaotic life. End of the world? Or just a talking-to from her mother? Could go either way. Don’t miss this latest magical Cary Redmond adventure!

Later in July, I will also have the next volume of STORIES FROM THE CAFE available, so look out for that news next month.

And in the meantime, The Witches re currently visiting the Cafe, if you'd like to enjoy their story for a few more days. July 1st sees Greta visiting the Cafe trying to be as inconspicuous as a vampire can be... *grin*

And there you go! A quick post from me for the end of June as we roll into summer (or winter), and at least in these parts, graduation seasons! Good stuff :)

Until next month, I hope you find some good reading to keep you company in the coming month.

Happy Reading!

March 25, 2026

Happy Late Equinox!

While it was officially a few days ago, it is now officially the change of the seasons, and we are just starting to feel hints of spring here in my neck of the woods.

This month, a new Percy James Mystery is out! And a little update on the Kickstarter and next Dragon Thief story.

First up, Percy and the Azur Regent return with a new mystery to solve. Those of you who enjoy this series and pick up this book, be sure to read the Thank You afterward. I talk about a passing comment in the story that was based on something that really happened. I'll say no more to avoid spoilers.

MATCHES MIGHT MENACE
A Percy James Mystery

Welcome to the Azur Regent

Summer heats up at the Azur Regents. The perfect blend of activity for front desk clerk, Percy James. She loves this time of year. The busy schedule. The myriad interesting guests. The buzz and life. Not so much the heat and humidity of the heat wave sweeping through the New York City streets. But the Azur Regent keeps the air conditioning on high, and the tourists comfortable.

Most of the tourists anyway.

In the hospitality game, difficult guests and troubled travelers pop up daily. Part of the life. Until those troubles bring danger. Then Percy and the staff must confront the heat. Because if things don’t cool down, someone could die.

~~

MATCHES MIGHT MENACE is out everywhere in eBook, and also a print edition is currently available my store and Amazon. I haven't gotten around to releasing them wide yet. HOWEVER, the whole series is in the schedule to make sure they're all available in print from other booksellers. I'll update when they go wide.

***

Quick update on the Kickstarter. Thanks to the usual business of life, I'm moving the launch of the Kickstarter to May. I want to make sure it's fun and fully put together and I'm behind on it because of getting stuck in Ireland after the Olympics in Italy (long story). So the Kickstarter will launch in May now.

For email reminders when it goes live, please follow the prelaunch page and Kickstarter will let you know as soon as it launches. I'll also post about it here.

***

Because I'm moving the Kickstarter around, I will likely be moving the publishing date of the next Dragon Thief story up to the end of April. Originally, it was on the schedule for May 10th, but since I haven't gotten the preorder up yet, it can come out in April without issue. *grin* An early spring surprise.

So! Look out for THE CHAIN JOB, Book 12 in the Dragon Thief series next month! More on that in the next update.

***

Finally, a little reminder to visit the Café at KatSimonsBooks for the latest short story: ANGIE AT THE CAFE! Where we get to see our favorite Demon Witch just hanging out being a witch, solving witchy problems in uniquely witchy ways. Free to read until the end of March!

Until next month, happy reading!

The Dragon Thief is Back!

Oh boy was January a busy month down my way, but things are settling out a little on the home front (even if the world is chaos and weirdness F*CK ICE!).

But now we are into February and February sees the return of the Dragon Thief, which I'm very excited about! I also have the prelaunch page up for the Cary Redmond Kickstarter. More on that below.

~~~
NEW RELEASE
First up, the new Dragon Thief story THE BLACKMAIL JOB is out everywhere now! This is book 11, the penultimate book in Season Two of the series. And things are getting more complicated in the dragon shifter world for Myra and Christopher. Still, there are damsels to save. And the team is ready!
THE BLACKMAIL JOB
A Dragon Thief Story
Dragon Thief Book 11
Crushing secrets rise to haunt and devastate…
Grappling with their discovery of a new and deadly foe, Myra and Christopher struggle to untangle the mess. Political machinations. Dragon shifter politics. Secrets buried so deeply to raise them could prove devastating.
Myra never imagined falling in love with a dragon shifter prince would prove so complicated and dangerous. Yet past secrets and dark plans continue to drag them into someone else’s nefarious plot. Uncovering the truth takes time. And distressed damsels still need saving from unscrupulous, murderous villains.
With a job to do, Myra and Christopher must put their private struggles to one side. And hope they can rescue their latest client before everything implodes. Because when those long-buried secrets find the light, Myra knows they’ll change everything.
Don’t miss this dark, twisty urban fantasy romance adventure through the Dragon Thief world, where a magical thief and her dragon prince face enemies old and new. And a future that hangs by a fraying rope.
~~~

THE CAFE AT KATSIMONSBOOKS

As a reminder, the newest Café story is up now! STRANGE THINGS ARE AFOOT AT THE CAFE is free to read until March 1st. And for people of a certain age, you might recognize some of the references to a certain time traveling duo from the late 80s. *grin*

~~~
NEW KICKSTARTER
So far, so good for launching the new Cary Redmond Kickstarter in April. Right now, the prelaunch page is up, and it is currently very basic. But you can follow that page to get notified when the Kickstarter launches.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/katsimons/the-trouble-with-families-and-goblins-urban-fantasy-romance
The more followers on this page, the better the launch usually goes, so if you could follow that page, that'd be great. I will be posting a few things to the page over the course of March, too, so keep checking back!
I'm really excited to get this book into the hands of Cary Redmond fans because introducing Cary's very mundane family with no idea that shapeshifters exist to Deacon's entire shapeshifter family while there are also other shenanigans going on the background was an absolute delight. And I hope readers will enjoy the story too!
~~~

LOOK AHEAD

So as a look ahead to next month, there will be more Café stories, more about the upcoming Kickstarter, and, with the usual caveats because life is weird, I will have a new Percy James Mystery out! Look out for all those details next month.

The next Dragon Thief story is working its way through the process now and is scheduled to release in May. That one is the last story for Season Two. And of course, it's fun and you should read it. LOL. I'll have more about that soon.

As a reminder, if you'd like to keep up on all my news and releases and such, you can always join my Reader Newsletter and get the details directly to your inbox. Subscribers get two free, exclusive stories (one Cary Redmond story and one Tiger Shifters story), as well as news, updates, cover reveals, excerpts, and occasional discount coupons to my store. Also occasional pictures of my baking exploits or travel. The newsletter comes out (for the most part) monthly and is a great way to keep up without putting in any effort at all *grin*

Finally, as I mentioned getting my AI statement up on the site a few months back, you might be able to tell, I haven't yet. So for the record, I am still NOT using AI in any of my marketing, cover art, interior art, and certainly not in my writing (I literally just write all the time so I have a backlog of things that need to be published). And I do still intend on having a formal statement on the sight sometime soon.

With the art, because I use stock photos, I'm doing my best to ensure I don't use AI, but some might slip through. If I'm made aware of that, I will change things. But this is just a reminder before I can get a page up that, to the best of my ability, I am not using AI in my publishing in any capacity. This is not a statement about the us of AI by other authors and publishers. This is just my own personal position on the technology within my personal writing and publishing.

~~~
OKAY SO, that's good for Romance Month, in which I have very little in the way of Romance to talk about! LOL. But since the Dragon Thief series is an urban fantasy romance/paranormal romance series, it counts. Until next month, I hope the world is treating you kindly and gently, and that you are finding very good stories to read!
Happy Reading!
Big Sale is over but...
ICING THE PUCK is on sale a few more days. Then it goes back to it's normal price, so be sure if you wanted it to pick it up!
And as return to the other releases this month, don't miss the new books that are out everywhere now!
THE POISONS BOOK JOB
Dragon Thief Book Three
Priceless artifact, impossible heist… How can a thief resist?
As Myra tries to find her footing in this new world of dragon shifters, one problem clearly stands out above the rest. The dragon king and his dangerous jobs. Avoiding Christopher because of his father proves impossible, though. And when the king offers her yet another job, a heist almost as interesting as it is impossible, she gives in. To both the job, and working with Christopher.
Pulling off an impossible theft requires focus, precision, and planning. Precision and planning, Myra has down. Focus… With Christopher around, that focus wavers. Ignoring a seven-foot tall, intimidatingly sexy dragon shifter would challenge even the most determined. Myra’s determined. Just not determined enough to stay away from Christopher.
But first they have to pull of his father’s impossible mission and recover a priceless relic. Without getting caught.
And without letting her feelings get in the way.
THE TROUBLE WITH SHIFTER AND FAE COURTS
Cary Redmond Book 8
Trade Paperback: Amazon | Barnes&Noble | Bookshop.org |
Large Print Paperback: Amazon | Barnes&Noble | Bookshop.org |
Trouble is Back…
And taking her newfound skills on the road. Cary Redmond survived a lot in the last year. From her Seventh Year test as a magical Protector, to meeting her leopard shifter mate, to fending off a whole host of enemies. A trip to Scotland with Deacon presents a well-earned chance to rest and practice her new skills and powers. Even if meeting Deacon’s grandmother comes in the bargain.
But Trouble follows Cary wherever she goes, including all the way across the pond to Scotland. Where Deacon’s grandmother harbors a secret tie to the Fae, and rival Faery queens fight for dominion. Cary finds herself, once again, in the middle of powerful enemies, protecting everyone in the crossfire.
This time, though, if she fails, the cost could be the love of her life.
Because this time, Faery wants Deacon.
Plus I have my contemporary romance novel, DESIGNED FOR YOU, on sale for only $0.99 if you're looking for a light, contemporary romance with fake dating and low angst and friends-to-lovers trope! It'll stay on sale at KatSimonsBooks through the end of the month, but I think the sale ends everywhere else around the 25th of June, so be sure to check it out now!
Happy Reading! And Happy Solstice!
May Days...and my Birthday Month!
Happy May! This is my birthday month and so normally is a pretty fun and exciting month for me. Mainly because of cake. The last five years, this month has been a bit weird, though, plagued with kid illnesses and Covid and such. So lately, I tense up coming into May. Fingers crossed this month is a good one on the personal level.
On the publishing level, however, it's a great month. I have two releases and a sale!
One release is the newest Cary Redmond novel, The Trouble with Shifters and Fae Courts, releasing from my store on May 14th!! If you couldn't back the Kickstarter in March, but still want the book a bit early, this is your chance! It's available from the store a full month before it releases wide.
THE TROUBLE WITH SHIFTERS AND FAE COURTS
~~
As a heads up (and I may have mentioned already, but as a reminder), I am going to be releasing most things early at the story starting in 2025. Right now, the Dragon Thief series books are releasing a week early to my store (starting with next month's The Poisons Book Job), before releasing wide to all vendors. Everything else besides those books and the Cary Redmond novel will release to the store and wide at the same time this year. I will keep everyone updated on that shift, though!
~~
The second release this month is a brand new collection of action-adventure thriller stories with a touch of humor. And it is put together in an adorable package and I love it so much! This collection's title was inspired by the Lita Ford song Kiss Me Deadly, so every time I look at the cover, I sing that song in my head. LOL. Now I have given you an earworm, too. Sorry, not sorry.
This one is also out in a very cute hardback edition with a full jacket and everything. I just can't stand how much I love the packaging for this book! The stories themselves are great fun, too *grin* But I'm a bit silly over the packaging. This one is out on May 21st!
And the deadly consequences begin.
Exotic settings and fast-paced action fill this collection of five adventure thriller stories from bestselling author Kat Simons. With larger-than-life heroes, adventures only the brave risk, and a sly humor to balance all the bullets.
NEWS
As I mentioned above, next month The Trouble with Shifters and Fae Courts releases wide at all vendors. This is when the paperbacks will also be available for my print readers. Sorry to make you all wait! I'm still working out the print editions from my store and how to do the shipping and taxes end of things. I'm hoping to have this all sorted by 2025 when I start releasing from the store early!
Look out for Cary Redmond on June 18th!
I also have the next Dragon Thief story out. The Poisons Book Job is out from KatSimonsBooks on June 4th if you're impatient to see what Myra and Christopher get up to next! And then the book will release wide on June 11th.
All of the above is available for preorder now if you'd like to have the books land into your reading app on release day.
Another heads up: Preorders from my store are delivered via BookFunnel and they will be delivered directly to your BookFunnel account/app on release day, same as if you were preordering the book from any other vendor. You'll also still get an email from BookFunnel with the link, but you won't even have to worry about that!
So that's it for this month! Fingers crossed the personal side of May goes smoothly and until next month, I hope May brings you a lot of joy and many many good books to read.
Happy Reading!
Kat
March 12, 2024
Almost Spring!
Or Autumn if you're in the Southern Hemisphere! I love these in-between seasons, the changing weather, the changing days. And frankly, I'm happy to see the back end of February which was a month! (The ending was better than the beginning, though, so I'll give February that at least.)
So this month, the big news is the Cary Redmond KICKSTARTER!! It launches today (at noon EST) and I'm both terrified and excited and thank you in advance to anyone who can back it.
purple and blue background with The Trouble with Shifters and Fae Courts, Cary Redmond Book 8 on the left and an image of the cover art in 3D paperback to the right.
If you watch the video, there's a bit of a trailer and then you get to see me being a dork on camera LOL. I was a little surprised how awkward that was! And there were many takes over a couple of days just to get that brief bit of video. And I still look all awkward, even after all that practice. So if you want to see me being a dork, be sure to watch that. (hahahaha!)
~~~

Also out this month is the standalone novella, HOURGLASS THROUGH THE CATS EYES, the second Destiny Cats novella. It releases officially on March 19th, which just so happens to be the Spring (or Fall) Equinox, which felt auspicious to me. And it's also right before my wedding anniversary *grin* It's available now for preorder if you don't want to forget!

This was originally published in last falls Haunts and Howls collection, Haunts and Howls and Jesters Bells. If you haven't read any of the Destiny Cat stories and want to give them a try, it's best to start with DESTINY THROUGH THE CATS EYES, which sets up the world. And as a bonus, that one is on sale at my store! *grin*

Cover art for Hourglass Through the Cats Eyes, with title at the bottom, author name at the top, and a yellow/blue background with a black and white cat in the desert looking up at lightning.
HOURGLASS THROUGH THE CATS EYES
A Destiny Cats Novella, Book 2

Available March 19th

With time slipping away, saving the universe takes bravery…and cats.

Learning to intermix her regular life with her new, destined life as a guardian of universal knowledge, Erica Randal studies hard, trains hard, and manages the two distinctly different parts of her day-to-day. She’s even getting used to her new cohort of cats, though the tension between her and the leader of her cats, Galahad, leaves her edgy. Getting used to the fact that Galahad has a human form, and that she finds that human form…compelling, makes their new living situation fraught.

But even with that, Erica has accepted her new life, her new family. Accepted her fate. Even enjoys the training. What she really craves now, though… Her first chance to retrieve one of the books she and her aunt are fated to protect.

So when the opportunity finally arises, Erica jumps at the chance. A retrieval that leads her and her cats into a dangerous desert adventure. A confrontation with deadly magic. And time running out for all of them…

~~~
That's the big stuff this month! Thanks again to anyone who can back the Kickstarter!
I'll be back next month with preorder links for THE TROUBLE WITH SHIFTERS AND FAE COURTS for my store and then for the wider stores for when the book releases there later in May and June. Best way to get it early, though, is to back the Kickstarter.
And! Next month is the release of THE CHICAGO JOB, the second novella in the Dragon Thief series! That is up for preorder now, so be sure to check it out, and if you like slow burn, dragon shifter romance with a Leverage, heist-type vibe, I hope you'll consider checking out the series.
Until then, thank you again!
And Happy Reading!
February Part 2
A week late, but we made February--barely. The newest Cary Redmond novella is out now! And actually, in the end, the timing is probably better. This is a St. Patrick's Day story and at this stage, we're getting pretty close to St. Patrick's Day.
CARY'S LEPRECAUN TROUBLES
A Cary Redmond Novella
Because of course leprechaun trouble on St. Patrick’s Day…
When magical Protector Cary Redmond’s mentor asks for her help, she finds herself in a grocery store parking lot on a beautiful spring day. Staring at the best dressed leprechaun she’s ever seen. And since that leprechaun irritates her mentor a lot, Cary decides this mission could be fun.
The trouble the leprechaun brings with him…not so fun.
Saving the day, finding an ancient relic, preventing the bad guys from driving all humankind into the sea… What better way to spend St. Patrick’s Day.
So long as she can manage to hold off the deadly plot without anyone getting killed.
Don’t miss the latest adventure in the life of Portland’s resident magical Protector, as she tries to keep the good guys safe, and the beer green.
~~~

For regular readers of the Cary Redmond series, this story is the introduction of Tom, the leprechaun who really gets under Jaxer's skin. Tom shows up in both The Trouble with Black Cats and Demons (Book 1) and The Trouble with Magic and Faery Curses (Book 5). But if this is your first Cary story, it stands on its own and can be read without reading any other story in the series.

In April, I'll have the next collection of Cary Redmond short out. Including one story that hasn't published as a stand alone yet. For my paperback readers, that will be the time to get this story as well as the other holiday stories I've got in the Cary world. More on that in April.

And as a reminder for readers of the series, you can get an free Cary Redmond novella by signing up to my newsletter, a story that isn't available anywhere else. There's also a free short story in my Tiger Shifters world with sign ups, so it's a two-fer.

For the next Seven Families: Wolf novel, Redemption in Stone, that is still on schedule to release in March, but I'm pushing back the date a week, so as of now, the release date will be the 21st of March (coincidentally my husband and my wedding anniversary! Which I just realized LOL). That will give us time to ensure the paperbacks are available by the release date. The preorders will be up soon (I'll add a link here when I get it if it's far enough out). Check back in March for all the details and links.

And until next month, Happy Reading!

Holidays are in full swing now!

There are so many of them this time of year, it's just delightful. All my favorites. For me, it's Winter Solstice, Halloween, Christmas, New Years, even American Thanksgiving because of the food. (Though, to be fair, I don't eat turkey so our food is a little different.)

And beyond the food, are the holiday books! For a paranormal/fantasy author Halloween is the season, of course. But I don't want to leave the others out. And so Cary Redmond gets a Christmas story--mixing my love of spooky with my love of all things Winter holidays.

cover art for Cary Holidays
CARY HOLIDAYS
A Cary Redmond Short Story
eBook

A quiet holiday shouldn’t be too much to ask…

Unless of course your name is Cary Redmond and your job title is Magical Protector. But in the days leading up to Christmas, in her second year as a Protector, Cary might just get the quiet time off she hopes for.

Nothing to do but watch Christmas movies, drink Christmas coffee, maybe even decorate for the season. No shapeshifter trouble. No vampires up to no good. No demons popping in to threaten death. Just peace and quiet. Lots and lots of quiet.

Until, of course, her new Christmas tree reveals a surprising complication...

That is anything but peaceful.
~~~
Coming in December is another Cary Redmond novella. In Cary and Dragons and Goblins, Cary meets a dragon and his hero--Joan and Rory from the Joan of Kerry series--and mayhem ensues. Of course. This novella leads into book 6 in the main series, The Trouble with Wizards and Old Enemies, which is out in January 2022!
For those of you who do NOT like spoilers, please don't read next months release until after you've read book 5 in the series, The Trouble with Magic and Faery Curses. There are spoilers throughout Cary and Dragons and Goblins for book 5--starting on the first page!--so again, if you are someone who hates spoilers, wait on this book!
I'll post that warning again next month, too.
And don't forget to look out for book 6 in the Cary Redmond series, coming out in January! Things in Cary's world are getting...complicated. Well, more complicated than they already are.
Until then, enjoy the holidays you celebrate. Stay safe and take care of yourself! And enjoy a good read.
Happy Reading!
Glorious May! New Release (and a new format!)
May is one of my favorite months of the year, not least because it's my birthday month. I turn 50 this year as well, and that's always a cool and momentous thing even if I have to turn 50 in the middle of a global pandemic. I'm still here, damn it. And I'm gonna celebrate that...
And to help me celebrate this lovely month, I have a new Paranormal Romance release! This is the crossover novel between the Cary Redmond world and the Tiger Shifters world. It's most definitely a romance, not a romantic urban fantasy. And I have two sexy nerd main characters. So this is kind of my sweet spot. LOL I hope you enjoy Cat and Dylan's story too!
ROMANCING THE LEOPARD
Ebook |
Trade Paperback: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository | Indie Bound |
Large Print: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository | Indie Bound |
Hardback: Amazon | (currently limited release for hardbacks; check back for more vendors!)
Their world is not what it seems…
Dylan Jones planned for this solar eclipse for two years. He got a prime site at one of the best locations in Oregon, and he intends to savor his last taste of freedom before he has to settled down and finish his Ph.D. thesis. He’s at the festival for sun pictures and maybe some all-night sky watching. And if he can manage it, some much needed time in his leopard form. He’s not there for a weekend fling. But the sexy genius in the site next to his proves too tempting to ignore. Something about Cat’s scent calls to his leopard, pulling him in like catnip, and he just can’t resist her.
Catalina Donovan came to Oregon for the solar eclipse, and only the eclipse. Getting away from New York and the constant pressure from the tiger shifter males to choose a mate only increases her determination to enjoy the festival. And the super hot guy in the camp site next to hers only adds spice to her vacation. There’s something about Dylan that draws her, something she can’t quite put her finger on. For someone like Cat, unraveling the puzzle of him is as tempting and enticing as his sexy voice.
But there’s more to Dylan than Cat knows. And more to their new relationship than Dylan wants to admit. As they countdown to the eclipse, and things between them heat up, Dylan must decide how much to admit to Cat, how much he dares tell a human. When tiger shifters show up to lay a claim to her, Dylan realizes he might just have to fight for her.
And a future neither of them expects.
~~~

For those of you old enough to remember the movie Romancing the Stone? I was feeling very nostalgic about that movie for reasons while I was trying to find a title for this book. Thus, the title. *grin* But I also liked the way it fit in with the Tiger Shifter titles.

And as a really cool twist that I did not see coming, the book is also available in hardback! I didn't think I'd be able to get it into hardback yet, so this was a pretty thrilling turn of events. A special little birthday present I wasn't expecting. I also didn't realize how excited I would be to have a hardback edition of one of my books. But I was pretty thrilled to get my little hands on it. The rest of my backlist will eventually go into hardback editions, and I'm hoping to keep the hardback editions rolling for front list titles as I'm able. But at least for this book, I get to add a little something extra for the release, and I'm frankly pretty delighted with it.

I have more Cary Redmond short story/novellas coming up in June and July, and then a short story to start a new spin off urban fantasy series. More on that soon!

Happy May! Stay safe and healthy everyone.

And Happy Reading!

New Year, New Novel!

Happy New Year!

Finally into 2021. And let's hope it's a better year than last--at least let's hope 2021 doesn't say "hold my beer" to 2020. I'm not sure I could take that. LOL

But just to start the year off right, a new novel! Book 5 in the Cary Redmond series, The Trouble with Magic and Faery Curses, is out now. This one was super fun to write. And I made myself cry at the end while editing. Which is usually a good sign. (Either that or 2020 had really gotten to me at that point, and I just needed to cry.) I hope readers of this series will enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed writing it!

The Trouble with Magic and Faery Curses, Cary Redmond Book 5

Ebooks
Trade Print: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository
Large Print: Amazon | B&N | Book Depository

Trouble’s in the Curses…

Halfway through her test year as a magical Protector, Cary Redmond is starting to think she just might survive. With her leopard shifter mate at her side, she’s even managed to enjoy parts of the journey.

Then her latest job reveals trouble brewing in Faery. Trouble that could affect all the realms and seriously complicate her test year. The path of danger points to the English Faery court—and her former mentor, Jaxer. She wants to help her friend, even though their current relationship can best be described as complicated. But stepping into a realm made entirely of magic, when she’s just discovered she can absorb magic, seems like a bad idea. Especially since she hasn’t learned how to release that magic yet.

With a world-ending threat looming, even Cary’s bosses want her to go. And she won’t be going alone. Both her mate and her mentor will be at her back. But to save the world this time, Cary has to confront her greatest fears. And the knowledge that if she fails…

Her own realm will fall.

~~~
Look out for more Cary Redmond adventures over the next months.
And coming in May 2021, a new Paranormal Romance! This is a cross-over story between the Tiger Shifters World and Cary Redmond's world. The hero is Dylan Jones (Deacon's youngest brother from the Cary Redmond series) and the heroine is Cat Donovan, whose older sister Amy Donovan was the heroine in Taming Her Tiger (Tiger Shifters 9).
Stay tuned for more on this new Paranormal Romance!
Until next month, I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy. 2020 was a tough year, and we're not through the hard stuff yet. But there's hope and light on the horizon. Stay safe everyone! Here's to better days ahead.
And until then, Happy Reading!
The Trouble with Baby Gods and Vampires--OUT NOW!!
The latest installment in Cary Redmond's adventures in Protectoring is out now! And wow is she in trouble this time. All in a days work for Portland's resident Protector, though, right?
Trouble Throws a Curve…
And not one Cary Redmond sees coming. In the early months of her seventh year as a magical Protector, discovering the Portland vampires behaving badly complicates Cary’s already complicated life. Learning the Master of Portland not only knows who she is but wants to meet her doesn’t help even a little bit.
With a wizard still skulking in the wings waiting to kill her and her latest Protector job tossing her into the middle of yet another crisis, the last thing Cary needs is vampire trouble. Even her developing relationship with her leopard shifter mate isn’t enough to distract from the shocks that just keep coming. And surviving her test year starts to look more and more impossible.
But she’s managed so far, she can get through this latest disaster. No problem for an ordinary woman with an extraordinary job…
If only life were that simple.
Trouble Takes a Holiday…
Though for Cary Redmond, meeting her shifter boyfriend’s mother for the first time doesn’t feel much like a vacation. Dealing with Deacon’s gorgeous ex-girlfriend, his complicated family, the truth about who he really is, her faery mentor’s emotional declarations, and the troublesome conflict escalating between the leopards and the cougars just adds spice to an already interesting month.
Cary’s used to surviving in the midst of chaos and impending preternatural wars. The real trick will be surviving Deacon’s protective mother who just happens to be the Queen of the Leopards.
A New Release in a Time of Weirdness
Hello! I hope everyone is safe and healthy!
I'm a little late posting this because even though we're all trapped in our homes for COVID-19 reasons, my schedule with school-aged kids around all the time has gotten more hectic rather than less. I'm currently jumping back and forth from typing this to helping my oldest with his math.
Ah well. It's for the greater good. And I'm happy to have them home safe while the world is a bit chaotic. I hope you're all staying safe as well!
In the meantime, in the midst of the transition to this new normal last week, I had a short story release. It feels very weird to even talk about that, but since I've been finding solace and support in fiction, I figure others probably are too. So here's the new book and link:
When Cary Met Lucy
A Cary Redmond Short Story
Out Now!
Ebook
In Cary Redmond’s life as a Protector, magic does not always cause the mayhem…
Running into the darkness under a bridge is not the sort of thing an ordinary woman should do late at night. But for Cary Redmond, it’s just part of her job as a magical Protector. And frankly, after the not-so-fun dinner with her parents, charging into danger to rescue the innocent seems like a good idea. Almost as good as the donut she was going to have before her Protector senses went off.
What she discovers in those midnight shadows, however, changes her perspective completely on women running into the darkness under a bridge. And sets the stage for a brand new friendship.
~~~

Another Cary Redmond short story just went up for preorder, releasing next month--When Cary Met Angie. And in May--so long as nothing else goes haywire in the world--the next Cary Redmond novel will be out. I should have the preorder up for that around mid-April and will update the information here.

As always, you can join my newsletter for quicker updates, or follow my author pages at your favorite book vendor, or just check back here when you're interested.

Again, I hope you all are able to stay safe and healthy in these crazy times! Good luck! And good reading!

A Cary Redmond Short Story

All women need more pockets in their clothes…

Except Cary Redmond has found in her new job as a magical Protector standard pockets do not hold up to the abuse. After losing her keys—again—she seeks the help of a friend from her pre-Protector life. Marianne is an animal lover, a devoted fan of 80s music, agrees wholeheartedly that pineapple does not belong on pizza, and best of all, is a seamstress.

Their friendship was meant to be.

But there is more to Marianne than meets the eye. And in this new world of magic and mayhem, Cary is learning everybody really does want to rule the world.

~~

When Cary Met Marianne takes place about six months after Cary was "tricked" into becoming a Protector, and in the timeline, happens after When Cary Met Jaxer and When Cary Met Pickles. Watch out for Cary's first meeting with Lucy next month!

Is that Cary Redmond has to deal with them.

Our intrepid heroine is back! In book two, she's officially entered her seventh year as a Protector and things are getting...interesting.

The book is out now in ebook, print, and large print editions (or it's supposed to be. The print editions are still propagating out to the various venders, but they'll be there soon!)

Another Cary Redmond Short Story Hits the Shelves

Well, the virtual shelves anyway. I will put all the shorts into a print edition when I have enough released, I promise, but for now...

The next Cary Redmond short story WHEN CARY MET PICKLES is out now, in eBooks from as many vendors as I can get it into.

***

WHEN CARY MET PICKLES (A Cary Redmond Short Story)
eBook

A new job, a new house, a new demon dog… And so much to learn.

Cary Redmond has a lot of study ahead of her if she wants to survive her new job as a magical Protector. Study means books. And books mean spending time in a bookstore—something she will never object to. However, the place her mentor sends her isn’t an ordinary bookstore. And the clientele are more than what they seem.

But with the help of The Bookstore’s proprietor and the resident basset hound, Cary is sure she can navigate this new world without getting eaten by anything.

Maybe.
***

Now, it's hard to choose your favorite baby, as they say, but I love this short story a lot. Mostly because I love basset hounds and I love bookstores and it combines the two. Not much better in the world--except for maybe coffee and pizza. Yes, Cary and I share these loves. I was going to call them vices, but really, how could you call something as glorious as pizza or coffee a vice?

For the chronologically inclined, this story takes place about 4 months after Cary was "tricked" into becoming a Protector. And her world just keeps getting weirder.

More in the Cary Redmond series coming soon! To keep up to date on new releases, you can join my newsletter. Or you can follow my author page at your favorite book vender.

Watch this space for release information on the next novel in the Cary Redmond series, THE TROUBLE WITH GHOULS AND SERIAL KILLERS, coming in early 2020!
